Food Safety & Quality

We’ve made food safety and quality a priority since 1961

Since 1961, S.H. Blackwell has established a proven track record for food safety and quality, protecting our clients’ brands by ensuring that the products we source, process, package and store comply with recognized food safety practices at every step. In addition, customer orders are reviewed prior to product shipment to ensure that the product fulfills the contract’s requirements.

As we’ve built our business, our team has been selective in its choice of suppliers, carefully vetting their quality, growing practices, and safety certifications. All of our suppliers are subject to third-party audits, and our products are traceable throughout the full supply chain.

Our growers in North America comply with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and CanadaGAP®, programs administered by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Canadian Horticultural Council (CHC), respectively. The food safety programs verify that fruits and vegetables are produced, packed, handled, and stored to minimize food safety hazards and contamination risks. GAP programs are benchmarked to the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), as is the SQF certification we require our processing and packaging partners to hold.

S.H. Blackwell uses a variety of programs and certifications to ensure food quality and safety, depending on the region. We are able to supply clients with the appropriate documentation on request.
